Remotes

Most Seat drivers keep a spare remote in the house or garage, but when they lose it getting replacement seat key keys from a dealer is expensive and time consuming. This is because most dealers will programme the key using the car's computer which will need to be reset. However, many people buy second-hand keys off the internet that are not programmed to their car. This can be a much cheaper alternative to going to the dealer. But, these key will not start the car because they will not have a transponder chip inside them. You can see the chip (yellow) in this picture below, it is a Dual Inline Package or DIP 18 pin chip. There are also a diode, transistor and resonator, all these parts make up the key's circuit.

Immobilisers

As car immobilisers became popular in the last decade, car thefts began to fall, but thieves are smart and constantly trying to find ways to get around security systems. The initial immobilisers were defeated by using a scanner to find the code on the chip and then copying it onto the blank key. But technology has improved and thieves are forced to think of new methods to get around security systems.

Fortunately, the majority immobilisers that we supply and install are Thatcham Cat 2 certified. The Thatcham Research organisation has tested and certified them. This non-profit organisation is responsible for the grading system, as well as the approval of aftermarket security devices for automobiles and alarm devices, including car immobilisers.

If the Thatcham approved immobiliser device is activated it will transmit a coded signal to the Engine Management System of the vehicle, preventing the engine from starting until the correct key is present. If the vehicle is "hot-wired" after entering it will stop the engine within 30 seconds and prevent it from being able to start.

Like any computer it is possible that the immobiliser will develop problems. Sometimes, the battery or key fob might need to be replaced. It is best to have experts handle the job and make sure everything is installed correctly and works.

Transponders

Transponders transmit an identification signal back when it is being probed. This helps maintain separation between aircrafts and signals an aircraft to air traffic controllers when it is operating a radar system. The information used to identify the aircraft transmitted by the transponder can differ based on the type of system used.

Transponders are also utilized in satellites and space vehicles to connect with Earth-based systems, like cell phone networks and other communication networks. They receive signals on a variety of frequencies, and then transmit the signals in a different frequency, similar to how repeaters in cell phone networks operate.

Often, sophisticated passive transponders can be found on aircraft. They monitor the status of flight and provide information about navigation including the aircraft's position, speed and altitude. Transponders are able to provide information that air traffic controllers can make use of to manage flight routes, and ensure security.

In addition to transponders for aircraft Many personal keys contain a small transponder chip. The chips are passive and do not require batteries. This allows the ECU to detect the transponder signal once it is installed into the ignition lock.

The flight deck of many aircrafts has a switch that pilots can press to switch their transponders on or off. They can also select a "ident" mode that lets the transponder transmit its unique squawk codes, which makes it stand out on an air-traffic control panel that is busy.
